ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - Rocky Boiman isn't going to get a chance to ease his way into the Detroit Lions' defense.

It's going to be more like cramming for final exams in his days at Notre Dame.

The veteran linebacker signed with the Detroit Lions earlier in the week and is scheduled to play in Thursday's final preseason game against Buffalo.

``We didn't bring him in here to stand around,'' Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Tuesday. ``He's here to play. We expect him to be out there against

The 34-year-old 12-year veteran missed the 2009 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Since coming into the league as a third-round pick of Detroit in 2000, he has appeared in 118 games and has totaled 188 t

ey had better clarify which decades they mean exactly. In the first three of the 10 years comprising the just-passed decade, the Silver and Black were a playoff group and even appeared in a Super Bowl. In the next seven, with apologies to the Detroit Lions, the Raiders were the "Joke of the Decade." The first team in NFL history to lose 11 or more games for seven consecutive seasons, Oakland is a miserable 29-83 (.259) since 2003. They've had five different coaches over that stretch, a number o
Lions happy to have veteran QB Hill with Stafford Wed Aug 25 02:19:00 2010 EST

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions would prefer to see as little as possible of quarterback Shaun Hill on the field this season.

However, that doesn't mean he's not wanted.

The Lions traded a seventh-round pick to the 49ers to acquire him, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz is quite happy to have the veteran ready in case something happens to second-year starter Matt Stafford.

``We're very comfortable with Shaun,'' Schwartz said Tuesday. ``He's a guy who has been in the league for sev
